A lovely, well-run and friendly camping site – perfect for exploring the beautiful North Norfolk Coast

Come mid-September, most people of sound mind put any thoughts of camping to rest. It’s not just because the days start to turn colder but because there aren’t that many campsites that stay open once the leaves begin to curl and drop. Nudging the north Norfolk coastline, Deepdale Farm in Burnham Deepdale is a rare exception.

Some believe there is no better time to visit Norfolk than autumn – the hedgerows are pregnant with blackberries and the county is a vision of russet-coloured forests and blush-coloured clouds. And with original owner Jason Borthwick now back in charge of the site, Deepdale's 80 pitches are once again the ideal base for exploring the delights of Norfolk whatever the season.

There’s often an enthusiastic programme of events at the farm, with everything from organised stargazing to cookery classes with local produce. But in any case there are diversions a-plenty in and around Burnham Deepdale. Kick-start the morning with a coffee at the café next door, and stock up on necessities at the nearby supermarket or on-site camping shop before hiring a bike or getting on your walking boots. You are so near to the coastline here, that an excursion to the water’s edge is a must. Their insistence on post-10pm ‘quiet time’ means that loud and drunken tomfoolery is not tolerated – a good thing if you want to get out and about early.

The facilities are excellent, with great showers and toilets, washing up areas, water points around the site, chemical toilet disposal, and a visitor information centre, with lots of local information about the area. We are Gold Green Tourism Business scheme certified, so environment is hugely important to us.  Our team are passionate about the area, and about helping customers find their hygge (their inner happiness) when they come to stay on the site.

The Owner Says

Deepdale Backpackers & Camping is in Burnham Deepdale on the beautiful North Norfolk Coast, approximately half way between Hunstanton and Wells-next-the-Sea on the A149 road.

The campsite welcomes tents, campervans, motorhomes and trailer tents.  (Unfortunately, due to planning restrictions, we are unable to welcome caravans.)  The campsite has excellent showers and toilet facilities, and are grass paddocks that drain well, with a few hard standing fully serviced pitches.

We, the original owners, took back the business in early October 2016, after leasing it out for 7 1/2 years.  We've made huge improvements since then, including a new shower and toilet facilities, electrical hookups, chemical disposal, and dividing many of the pitches with hedges and trees to soften the space and reduce the wind impact.

The backpackers hostel, beside the campsite, offers private ensuite rooms and dorms.  Reception is Deepdale Visitor Information Centre, a wonderful resource for information about this beautiful part of the world.

Next door is Dalegate Market, with a fuel station, supermarket, cafe (breakfast, lunch & afternoon tea), shops, pop up shops and other useful facilities. In the village are two good pubs, and along the coast there are many other wonderful places to eat and drink.

We are an eco-friendly site, with the environment at the heart of core of the business.
