Laid-back camping and glamping a stone's throw from Norwich and at the gateway to the Norfolk Broads

A pebble’s throw from a beautiful lake, this is a campsite with traditional and luxury accommodation, plus bundles of outdoor activities, and all just a leisurely stroll from one of England’s prettiest cities – what more could you want?

Whitlingham Broad Campsite is a family-orientated place in a county with no shortage of magnificent spots to pitch. Situated on the spacious 80-acre Country Park, this is both a useful gateway to the Broads, and a perfect base for exploring the medieval delights of Norfolk’s county capital.

The spacious grass pitches are spread over the upper and lower fields, with a magnificent play area built on the slope in between. You can park up tent-side in the lower field while the upper is a car-free haven meaning there’s plenty of room for a run and a play (pooches are welcome too). There’s also a couple of fully furnished bell tents, a yurt, a shepherd’s huts and a converted railway waggon, plus brand new, luxury tree-house-like structures nestled against the trees, with views over the country park towards the Great Broad.

The lure of the Broads is inescapable in this part of the world. With scores of visitors flocking to enjoy the wet and wild delights of Norfolk’s many navigable rivers and waterways, Whitlingham Broad is ideally situated to join in the fun. The park’s award-winning Outdoor Education Centre provides a host of activities including kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. And if you’d rather keep your feet strictly on terra firma there are countless scenic walks and bike rides to enjoy. Why not nip in to Norwich for the day to walk the café-dotted lanes and visit its grand Gothic cathedral?

Lower Meadow camping pitch (1 tent or 1 van)
A relaxed, peaceful campsite.
It was such a peaceful time we spent on the campsite. The facilities were well maintained, but a hint for future campers...if you go to the toilet after dark take a torch with you because the automatic lights switch themselves off while you are in the cubicle! Checking in and out were relaxed affairs. We are definitely planning to return.

Lower Meadow camping pitch (1 tent or 1 van)
Country camping near the city.
The campsite is spacious and the toilets and showers are very clean and pleasant. It is good to see the rabbits hopping about of an evening! There is some traffic noise from the A roads nearby, but nothing a pair of earplugs can't sort out. We loved exploring Norwich city - 9 mins drive away and had a great time at Horsey Gap, admiring the seals as part of a 5 mile circular walk from the mill.

We enjoyed our weekend in your camping site. Beautiful view and spacious place close to the lake, very nice place. We loved the fact that you have the kids play area in close proximity. Our dog enjoyed it too. Thank you for the nice stay

From the host
Simple boutique camping with Norwich on the doorstep and the Broads in the back garden. We are a peaceful site situated within the 80 beautiful acres Whitlingham Country Park. Within a few minutes walk you will be able to hire canoes and kayaks to explore the Broads, enjoy woodland and waterside walks. We have pre-erected accommodations in the form of boutique woodland dens (treehouse accomodation) railway carriages, bell tents and a yurt - or bring along your own tent or campervan.
Nearby attractions

The neighbouring Outdoor Education Centre offers plenty of broad-based aquatic activities including canoeing, dragon boat hire, sailing, windsurfing. The site is right on the Wherryman's Man and national Cycle Route One path. Norwich has attractions galore as well plenty of places to eat and drink.

Food and drink

There’s a café inside the Whitlingham Broad Visitor Centre (01603 617332) and there’s a good vegan restaurant, River Green Café (01603 622448), at the entrance to Whitlingham Lane. Norwich is a treasure trove for small bars and cafés. We particularly recommend Frank’s Bar (01603 618902) for relaxed Mediterranean-accented dining, Wild Thyme (01603 765562) for vegetarian food and St Andrews Brew House (01603 305995) for a pint.
