A family-friendly campsite on a working East Yorkshire Farm just outside the market town of Beverley

East Yorkshire’s Butt Farm Caravan, Camping & Glamping site is the brainchild of young tenants Oly and Jen, who took over the farm in 2014 and opened the site for the first time in 2016. New for 2022 are the recently fully refurbished modern bathroom facilities including larger showers for family use. From outside the barn keeps its history, yet inside there’s a modern function.

Beyond the barn, there’s a dog shower, chemical disposal point, recycling in a converted grain silo, plus electricity and water on all the hard standing pitches, while tent campers can tuck themselves around the meadow perimeter. The field is around two and a half acres in size, so space is never an issue. And, when you do decide to venture further afield, a blackboard and pinned-up maps in the information area will help you decide on where to go.

Butt Farm is also home to 4 unique glamping units – 3 recently renovated off grid glamping wagons and a fully equipped lodge made from straw bales with kitchen facilities and an en suite.

History buffs will feel at home on Butt Farm. Across the fields, the cobbled market town of Beverley marks itself out with the towers of Beverley Minister – a grand gothic masterpiece that took almost 200 years to build. While, in a neighbouring field, a World War II anti-aircraft gun site recently renovated by Historic England. It’s an intriguing little landmark to discover on your tent-step. Indeed, the farm itself has an air of history about it – centuries-old barns, complete with worn red bricks and ancient wooden shutters, show there is nothing young about this lush agricultural holding.

A footpath and cycleway are well marked to lead you directly into Beverley and the surrounding areas. The route also takes in some of Butt Farm’s 180 acres, home to cows, sheep and pygmy goats – visit early in the camping season and there’s plenty of their youngsters about too. Head in the opposite direction, meanwhile and you’ll eventually come to Skidby Mill, Yorkshire’s last working windmill and a noted landmark on the Wolds skyline. The original warehouses surrounding the mill still stand and are used as a museum of rural life, with activities for children and an excellent café in the courtyard. It’s all just another historic feather in Butt Farm’s camping cap.

4 - Premium Hardstanding Pitch
The Beetlebeards return again!
Another great stay at Butt farm. As always it’s a hassle free, quiet space with clean facilities. Although the site was full you didn’t feel like it was and it was really nice seeing all the families playing rounders together.

19 - Grass Tent Pitch
Camping with kids.
What a beautiful place, very friendly, plenty of facilities available to use at no extra cost, fridge, freezer, charging phone point in communal area, very clean facilities and heated too. Each pitch had plenty of room. Kids were able to play ball and games without getting in anyone's way. We enjoyed it that much we stayed an extra night. Would recommend to everyone.

Butt Farm is a working family farm situated two miles from the historic market town of Beverley in East Yorkshire. The farm is located on a footpath and cycleway network enabling you to walk and cycle into Beverley and the surrounding areas. Nearby attractions

The campsite is on the outskirts of Beverley, home to old cobbled streets and grand Beverley Minster (01482 868540), one of Europe's finest gothic minsters. It can be seen from a great distance as you approach across the fields – there is an excellent 30-minute walking route into the centre of town. In the opposite direction you can walk or drive to Folly Fishing Lakes (07860 255981) to try your hand at angling or simply sit and watch from the café. Just beyond, Skidby Windmill (01482 848405) is well worth a visit. A working, four-sailed tower windmill and the last working mill in Yorkshire, it offers visitors short tours and boasts magnificent views over the Wolds. Further afield, 2017's UK Capital of Culture, Hull, is 20 minutes away by car and it's under an hour to York. Visit in June for the excellent Beverley Folk Festival (01377 217569). Other highlights include Beverley Racecourse (01482 867488) and the David Hockney Trail. For children the site is ideally located for visiting Let Loose in Beverley (01482 843475)  and William’s Den at South Cave (01430 472230)

Food and drink

The Barrel (075500 78833) is the closest pub, with The Ferguson Fawsitt Arms (01482 882665) and The Dog & Duck (01482 801662) offering great bar meals – all in Walkington. The Tiger Inn (01482 869040) and The Woolpack Inn (01482 867095) are both good, while The Kings Head (01482 868103) and the historic Nellie's White Horse (01482 861973) are also well worth a visit. For something up market, try the Michelin-starred Pipe & Glass (01430 810246) at North Dalton, while for a light bite there's Folley Lakes Café (07860 255981) in Risby or cycling stop-off Café Velo (01482 679270) in Beverley. There's a supermarket (with a petrol station) less than a mile down the road.
