Facilities

Being situated on a working farm and being run by a family gives you a real life glimpse into farming life.  Being small also allows us to provide the personal touch and be flexible to accomodate our guests.

Suitable For

We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive site with a sense of family running through everything we do.  So in our opinion is suitable for everyone.  However at this current time the toilet block allocated to the pods is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Nearby

Dalston village really does have everything you need with Carlisle City offering a little more.
We are perfectly situated for the North Lakes and West Cumbria with Hadrian Wall country not being too far away either.

Food & Drink

There are a number of takeaways that will deliver to the site and these are listed on our website.  The Blue Bell in Dalston is also another favourite establishment, the food is amazing and they offer a good selection of gins. Also, visit the local gift shop Suziebou's for a momento of your stay; local products produced by local people.

The Owner Says

We are a certificated site through The Freedom Camping Club.  We are able to offer pitches for 10 tents and 5 caravans, each pitch is fully serviced with both water and electric.

Touring pitches and tent pitches have a female and male toilet along with a disabled access toilet with baby changing facilities.  Guests also have access to two large shower rooms

The pods have shared facilities off a male and female toilet and a shower.

The campsite over looks rolling farm land which is crowned by a view of local fells.

We are perfectly situated for visiting the Lake District  with the North Lakes only being a 30 minute drive away. We are ideally situated for anyone wanting to complete the Cumbria Way, which is one of Britain's most popular long distance footpaths. The surrounding area also boasts a number of beautiful cycle paths.

Local amenities include a swimming pool, garage, Co-Op, number of restaraunts, play areas, banks and local traders.

We hope to offer our visitors a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can enjoy the sceneray and some quality time with your loved ones.  We will be offering a breakfast service and activities for children.

We also have three camping pods available for those that want a little more comfort.  Bedding and towels can be provided if requested.  We also offer our guests the opportunity to holiday with their horses in the near future.

Social Distancing Measures

We are taking every measure to ensure your stay is as enjoyable and safe as possible. Measures we've put in place are:

Contactless Check-In - All payments are made before arrival and a member of Camping at Cardewlees will be on hand to direct you to your pitch.
Social Distancing - Our pitches are distanced to appropriate levels so you're able to enjoy your stay worry-free.
Masks - We ask all of our guests to wear masks and keep to current social distancing guidelines in communal areas.
Cleaning - We will regularly clean the communal areas to ensure hygiene standards are kept to a high standard.

Please remember to stick to current guidelines and wash your hands regularly. We want to keep you and the rest of our guests safe.

Getting There

From Carlisle, head towards Thursby and Cockermouth on the A595. Stay on the road for about five miles until the Orton Grange Roundabout. Turn left and soon after Dobbies Garden Centre you reach a crossroads. Cardewelees Farm and the campsite is up the tarmac driveway straight ahead.

The closest railway station is in Dalston and just a mile from site. It’s possible to walk but if you ring ahead, Becki may be able to pick you up. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Carlisle (where you’ll likely have to change trains anyway) for about £15 or a bus. The closest bus stop is at Dobbies Garden Centre – opposite the farm entrance (a few hundred yards from site) on the Carlisle-Silloth route.
