The Owner Says

The Viner family have been farming at Park Farm for over 100 years, true to our traditions we are still a working farm, these days we farm our 380 acres with a mixture of sheep and arable. We think Park Farm is a very special place and we'd love to share it with you.

The campsite is set at the top of our rolling meadows and each pitch has views stretching for miles across the farm and the valley beyond over to the Cotswold hills in the distance. After five years running a 'glamping' site we have tried to create what we think is the perfect campsite – somewhere we would like to stay ourselves – with 'proper' camping but with a few added luxuries to make it extra special.

When you arrive you can park in our clearly signed car parking area and collect a wheel barrow to transport your luggage down to your pitch - don't worry it's not far only about 400yds to the furthest end of the site – and it's well worth it to have a vehicle free, peaceful and safe area!

We are a busy working farm so there might not be anyone around to see you in but there is a board near the carpark showing which pitch you are booked into and everything is clearly signed so you won't get lost. When you get to the site your pitch will have a blackboard with your booking name on it.

Each pitch has it's own private toilet shed with sink and cold running water, campfire area, picnic bench and more than enough space to pitch a large family size tent.

Campfires are positively encouraged and you can pre-order campfire wood whilst booking your pitch, but please do not fell any wood (see site rules). You are more than welcome to bring your own BBQ but please make sure it is raised off the ground.

Near the pitches there is an animal paddock and chicken coop, with our pet goats, sheep and chickens. The goats are super cheeky and love attention and making friends with our guests! You can collect eggs from the coop, if the chickens are obliging but these are first come first served!

In the farmyard we have free hot communal showers, washing up facilities and a small Honesty Shop selling a few essentials. Each pitch has it's own 'Honesty Jar' for the shop and campfire wood so please make sure you bring enough change!

Next door to the showers is Lindsay's Fibre Arts Studio, she might be spinning wool or felt making - do pop in and have a look and say hello! At busy times Lindsay runs family feltmaking workshops, there will be a sign up sheet for these in the Honesty Shop.

We offer a range of hampers using lovely local produce wherever possible which you can order whilst making your booking.

During your stay you are free to wander across our fields and meadows and explore the fields - just remember to shut the gates so the sheep don't escape!

About The Real Campsite at Park Farm

Nearby

Viewing your surroundings is always a good way to start. Faringdon Folly Tower, a unique 100ft tower built by the eccentric Lord Berners in the 1930s, offers fantastic panoramas of the Thames Valley and, a mile or so further north, Radcot Bridge and Lock is a wonderful spot to stop for a picnic after. It's the oldest bridge across the Thames and was the scene of many battles, today, away from the lock itself, this area of the river is also particularly popular for wild swimming. To the south lies Uffington: home to the famous white horse; a hill figure carved into the chalk escarpment and thought to date back to 1000BC. For more farm fun, kids love Farmer Gow's Activity Farm (01793 780555) in nearby Longcot, which has daily feedings at 11am and 2pm. For something more exotic, spot rhinos, giraffes and zebras at Cotswold Wildlife Park (01993 823006), 25 minutes away.

Food & Drink

There's a wood-fired oven available to hire by the day, ideal for pizzas, baked potatoes or cooking joints of home grown Park Farm lamb (available to buy from the freezer in the honesty shop)! Tripods and cauldrons are also available to hire for campfire cooking. If you're venturing off-site, you don't need to stumble far – it's a 10 minute walk to The Snooty Mehmaan (01367 242260), a multi-award winning Indian restaurant, including 'Best Asian Restaurant in Oxfordshire'. For something more traditional, The Lamb at Buckland (01367 870484) – serving local brews and seasonal hearty pub fayre –  is a pleasant hour's stroll away (there's a bus that can drop you back). Faringdon town centre, meanwhile, is home to plenty of other eateries. A few doors down, the Faringdon Coffee House (01367 241574) has a handful of outdoor tables – grab a slice of cake and watch the world pass by. The Trout Inn (01367 870382) at Tadpole Bridge is a touch on the pricey side, but worth it for its location on the banks of the Thames with views across the Oxfordshire countryside.

Family Friendly

Keeping to a tiny number of pitches has been a stroke of genius at Park Farm. There's so much space to play in and ample time to enjoy it. But between the North Downs and the Cotswolds, it's the landscape that does most of the hard work. The views are positively dreamy.
