The Shepherds Return

UK England South East England West Sussex Petworth

Quaint, quiet respite and warm hospitality in a gorgeous natural setting
Nestled in the beautiful quiet of the South Downs national park, just an hour from London, you’ll find the charming shepherds hut at The Shepherds Return. The hut, decorated by owner and interior designer Lizzie Staples in muted natural wood and soft gingham, is charming, comfortable and quaint. Offering a cosy refuge on chilly nights, keep warm in the organic wool and linen bedding alongside the wood burning stove with sheepskin hot water bottles and steaming mugs of tea. Hospitable owner Lizzie first saw and fell in love with shepherds huts only six years ago. Her hut at The Shepherds Return is modelled after traditional shepherd’s huts from the 16th century, yet incorporates modern conveniences like solar powered lighting. Lizzie makes an effort to ensure everything offered to guests is natural, local or organic, from the antique furniture adorning the hut to the organic eggs laid by her own hens and loves to surprise her guests with extra goodies throughout their stay. The surrounding environment offers a perfect tranquil escape for couples fleeing the hustle and bustle of the city. With glorious views across the natural beauty of the South Downs, and Lizzie’s own beautiful garden, guests can enjoy peace, quiet and an abundance of natural wildlife. In the morning watch deer graze in the valley below and fall asleep to the birdsong of owls and nightingales.
