Nestled sweetly on the Bodmin border, making eyes at the Dartmoor forest, is Little Upton. The rather glamourous smallholding belonging to Sarah and Greg has a host of farm animals including two alpacas Starsky and Hutch – your devoted canvas protectors. And If you're lucky, you may get a wake up call from one of the cheeky resident chickens.

The bell tents are everything their boutique name suggests – stylish, spacious and addictively comfortable – you could happily waste days away in them. However when you glance over your Cornish surroundings, staying in the bell tent is the last thing you'll want to do. You could go for a walk along the moors of Bodmin, sample some fresh, seasonal Cornish cuisine from a local restaurant or watch a play in the amphitheatre neighbouring the site – the choices are endless. And if staying local isn't your choice of pasty filling, then nearby coastal marvels Looe, Fowey and Polperro are only a scenic drive away.

Nearby attractions

Just opposite the Caradon Inn (see Food & Drink), sits the Sterts open air amphitheatre which has a great selection of shows throughout the summer (01579 362382/362962). There's an equestrian centre a short drive from the site offering a range of stunning treks over Bodmin Moor. And Bodmin Moor is also a top favourite amongst walkers and nature enthusiasts alike. The site is also positioned conveniently halfway between Looe and Polperro – 2 of Cornwall's famous coastal beauty spots. Owners Sarah and Greg will happily help you pick and book a variety of Cornish sports, sightseeing and many other activities.

Food and drink

When it comes to traditional English pubs with locally sourced food, you will be spoilt for choice. The Caradon Inn is on your doorstep (01579 364066). Whilst other nearby pubs include the Cheesewring Hotel & Pub in Minions (01579 362321), the Manor House Inn in Rilla Mill (01579 362354) and the Crows Nest Inn in Crows Nest village (01579 345930) – all serve hearty pub grub and have a pleasing selection of local ales and ciders. Sarah and Greg also sell eggs and pork (sausages, bacon, chops, belly) onsite. Liskeard has a selection of restuarants including Tapenades – a small, friendly bistro where everything is cooked to order (01579 344844).
