Here at Hipcamp, we like to think we've seen it all. From extra-terrestrial treehouses to helicopter hideaways, but we don't know many campsites with their very own 1,300ft miniature railway line!
Nestled in the charming mid-Cornish hamlet of Rose (a few minutes south of Newquay and easily accessible for the A30 gateway to the coast), Wild Flower Cottage couldn't be more charming. Comprising just two gorgeous glamping abodes, this quintessentially Cornish of glampsites makes for the perfect romantic retreat. Guests to this secluded glamping hideaway have a choice of either the 'Ooh La La Shepherds Hut' or the new, beautifully-restored gypsy wagon, 'Poppet'. Both come fully-insulated and double glazed, while their interiors are the epitome of style and comfort – think cute Cath Kidston-esque fabrics, creamy surfaces and cast iron wood-burning stoves for really transforming your hut into a cosy camping cocoon.
In keeping with the resourceful, 'make do and mend' vintage vibe of the accommodation, the shower is an ingeniously converted old Morris Z postal van. Though antique on the outside, the bathroom inside is finished to the highest-specifications, with sensor lighting, heated towel rail, curved shower cubicle, and flushing loo.
Linked to the other units by a well-lit footpath, a swish new glass-fronted timber lodge with expansive views over the garden is planned for spring 2014. It will house a fully-equipped kitchenette as well as a 'chill-out area'. Not that you'll need much inducement to unwind here.
And for all those who longed for that Hornby train set as a child, the gorgeous mini locomotive will bring the memories flooding back. Snaking its way through the spacious private grounds, through the bluebell-carpeted wooded fringes and circling the tranquil pond the ducks and carp call home, we dare you not to pump your fist in train-horn-mime. And because it's adults only, peace and quiet is all but guaranteed. Well, perhaps with the exception of the odd the mimicked "choo-choo". All aboard...
Perranporth boasts a cracking butcher in M Champman & Sons (01872 573216) while The Mustard Seed (01872 571421) greengrocer stocks lots of lovely fruit, veg and healthy local produce. Be sure to visit one of the local tearooms for a slice of Saffron Cake – an historic Cornish delicacy. For those who've travelled from far-flung corners of the country, a welcome hamper brimming with local produce can be ordered and ready for you on arrival. There's plenty of pubs and restaurants in Perranporth. The swanky Pavilion Boatshed (01872 300784) offers a sophisticated menu for those looking to really... erm... push the boat out, while for dining table views, The Seiners Arms (01872 573118) takes some beating.
