Laid-back and sociable camping on a back-to-basics pop-up site between the New Forest and the Dorset coast.

Take a big field in a prime location, add a handyman and an ex-pub landlady, and the result is Sionna Camping. The field is 10 acres and flat, the location is between the New Forest and the Jurassic Coast, the handyman is Simon, and the former landlady is Donna. See what they did with the name? This place may seem like a simple site but it’s built on love, fuelled by an enthusiasm for camping, and kept clean with an obsessive eye for detail.

Sionna Camping is pop-up camping done well, and that’s not because it’s providing fancy facilities; it’s something more simple than that. It’s because of the 60 extra camping pitches popping up in an area that’s popular in summer — never more so than now. It’s set up in a farmer’s field on the edge of the Dorset village of Burton, ten minutes drive from the southwest corner of the New Forest, ten minutes from the town of Christchurch, and ten minutes from Mudeford beach. Bournemouth is 20 minutes away and, 10 minutes further from the site, is the eastern edge of the Jurassic Coast.

It’s very much a back-to-basics kind of place with portable loos, hand-built shower cabins, open-air washing-up sinks, and plenty of room to run around in. But there’s a little twinkle added by Donna; fairy lights, solar lanterns and a very warm welcome. A lifelong camper, caravanner, and campervan owner, she loves the great outdoors and can’t wait to welcome you to it. So much so, in fact, that she’s popped up a couple of tents for people who don’t have their own. There are two six-man dome tents and a retro house tent which are rented unfurnished, as well as a modern tipi-style tent that’s the glampiest of the lot. Hire this one and everything’s included (except for bedding).

Donna and Simon have made sure all the important things are taken care of, down to your morning coffee. They run a coffee van and bottle bar and have organised easy meals and entertainment for weekends, when there's a bit of a festival vibe thanks to visiting food vans and acoustic musicians who play by the communal campfire. This is a laid-back, sociable site run by laid-back and sociable people; campers themselves who will do their best to make sure you have a good time whether you are camping with your dog, with your family, or your friends. All are welcome here.

Crikey, it would be easier to say what ISN'T nearby!!

Here goes: There is a flat, easy walk into Christchurch town centre along the causeway, next to the water meadows. Alternatively you can catch a bus into Christchurch with further connections to Bournemouth, The New Forest, the Jurassic Coast and more.

Just Christchurch itself is so diverse, there's a harbour with boat trips / ferry trips, up the Stour or out to Hengistbury Head and other watersports available. There's restaurants, cafés, pubs, quirky independent shops, a weekly market every Monday and Christchurch Priory to meander around and enjoy the ambiance.

Or you could head to Mudeford Quay with the kids for the best (IMO) crabbing around, grab some fresh shellfish from the local stall and wander along to Avon Beach, Steamers Point and Highcliff beach - it's just beautiful.

Maybe take a beach day, Avon beach has all the facilities with less hustle & bustle than the big beaches. Alternatively, you may like the hustle & bustle of Bournemouth which is just a 20 minute drive away.

The New Forest is just 10 minutes drive, "Wild Horses" won’t be able to drag you away from the New Forest once you’ve experienced its peace and fallen in love with the forest’s idyllic glades, ancient woodland, open moors, heathland and cliff top walks. Escape to a world a million miles from your everyday life where ponies, cattle, donkeys and deer roam free, as well as loads of amazing restaurants, pubs and cafes to eat and try our local produce and huge choice of fantastic attractions, activities and annual events!

The famous Jurassic Coast starts approximately 30km from our site, this opens up an even bigger world of exploration for everyone, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door and Kimmeridge to name just a small percentage of tourism hot spots.

Food & Drink

We are lucky enough to have two, fantastic pubs within less than 10 minutes walking distance; The Bear at Burton which offers a wonderfully charming country retreat in Burton, Christchurch. Sample their delicious food, relax in their bar or sun-soaked courtyard.

The Oak Inn is a traditional English country inn that sits on the very edge of the scenic new forest in Dorset. Hidden down a short country road.

A welcome respite for locals and travellers alike, all the family will be greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, delicious home cooked food and a comprehensive array of beverages to fulfil the most healthy of appetites.

The Owner Says

Sionna Camping is a new pop-up site in the quaint village of Burton in Dorset, which is very close to Christchurch.

Open July 19th - September 13th 2021

This is a "back to basics" eco friendly campsite with the added bonus of hot shower, on-site toilets, pop-up coffee cart, visiting mobile food and drink traders, occasional entertainment etc.

There are no EHU's just beautiful dark skies and loads of fairy lights.

Sionna Camping is run by Simon and Donna (yes we did a "Brangelina" thing).

Simon is a larger than life chap (6'3") who can turn his hand to anything and is always happy to give a helping hand, he will be keeping the site secure and functioning to assure a happy holiday is had by all!

Donna is a bubbly, front of house sort of person, she loves nothing more than making sure her campers are happy and enjoying their break away, plus, as an ex-publican, customer service is of number one importance to her... she can't wait to welcome you to Dorset.
