A tents-only, dog-friendly site with campfires allowed in Somerset.

When it comes down to it, what do you really need from a campsite? For many of us, the answer is a flat pitch, a water supply, and somewhere to go to the loo. If you fall into this camp (pardon the pun) then you are going to love Loves Hill Camping. This simple summer campsite in Somerset is as laid-back as they come; it’s tents only, dog friendly and campfires are allowed.

Situated between the Cotswolds and the Mendip Hills, Loves Hill offers a rural, edge-of-village location that means you can relax in the countryside but still be within walking distance of a pub, a shop, and a chippie. The campsite is essentially a large, level field, some eight acres, that’s been mown into shape by owner Nick to create a place to stay for a month in the summer. As befits a place that’s usually used to grow grass for winter feed, it’s as eco-friendly as he can make it with composting loos and hot water showers with waste water destined to irrigate nearby fields.

You can drive to your pitch and camp where you like, thanks to a free-style pitching policy. And while Nick is on hand to welcome you, tell you what’s what and sell you logs for your campfire, you are generally left to enjoy the peace and quiet of the setting   – however you see fit.

There’s plenty of space for kicking a ball about but there’s a tempting footpath that leads off site too. Follow it for a mile or so and you’ll reach the banks of a nearby river, The Cam Brook, with a bridleway that’s part of the Limestone Link long-distance footpath. The two ends of that route are in the nearby Cotswolds and Mendips Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where there’s plenty more walking on offer. Bath is within 10 miles of site, Wookey Hole Caves and Longleat Safari Park within 20.

We have a shower block on site (with hot water, we're not barbarians) and in line with our focus on limiting our environmental impact we have two composting toilet blocks. The used shower water will be stored, treated and used to irrigate the neighbouring fields. Fires are permitted on site and we will have wood for you to buy, and fire pits to rent. There are plans in the pipeline for local visiting food trucks, for breakfast and dinner options.

Suitable For

Due to planning law this site is for tents or trailer tents only. All pets are welcome as long as they are well behaved; dogs, cats, guinea pigs - just think Noah's Arc without the Arc. But if you are bringing anything larger than a cow please let us know.

The campsite is situated in the small village of Timsbury, which boasts a shop, pub, chip shop and a park for those little humans.

July and August only.

Getting There

We are located at the top of Loves Hill, the best route in is from the A39, take the turning towards Timsbury (in Farmborough if coming from the north, or High Littleton from the south)

From Farmborough follow the road south until you reach the crossroad by the recreation ground, straight over here and right at the T junction at the end of this road. we are approximates 750m on the left - if you start going down Loves Hill you've gone too far.

From High Littleton head towards Timsbury which is signposted from the A39, left at the mini roundabout and follow the road out in to the sticks, it will get narrow in places to take it easy, you will drop down the hill, as it winds back up towards the village you will be heading up Loves hill. Once in the village, and still going up hill there will be a wall on the left and an open field on the right. we are 100m on the right after the 20MPH sign.
There are good bus routes from Bath, and from Bath train routes to most on Europe. it take approximately 30 minutes on the bus from bath, and its a short walk to the campsite from the bus stop. If you have a ridiculous amount of stuff, let us know in advance and we'll meet you to help.
