Woodhall Farm, Wichenford, Worcestershire WR6 6YE

A family-run glamping and camping site set in 350 acres of quiet rural countryside with views of the Malvern Hills

You don’t have to travel far from the city centre before you’re in the thick greens of the countryside around Worcester. In fact, from the grand and architecturally dazzling cathedral that overlooks the compact city, it’s less than five miles before your rolling along single-tracked Fox Lane to Woodhall Farm. The road, flanked on either side by sheep-dotted meadows, runs among a network of footpaths that weave between the various villages (and village pubs). It’s a beautiful spot for a campsite.

350-acre Woodhall Farm, has more than just camping, however. While the family-run campsite has a large meadow set aside for around 20 tents, they also have a small collection of glamping accommodation on offer for the more comfort-seeking camper. Their trio of tipis, for example, are furnished inside with real beds and bed-side furnishings, while bell tents have futon-style beds that you can sink into as soon as you arrive. Campfires are allowed and the tipis, in their own separate area on the edge of a wheat field with westward views of the Malvern Hills, also have their own barbecues.

While it takes little more than 10-minutes to drive back into Worcester (it’s a 25-minute bike-ride along the back roads), there’s no rush to get back to the city attractions. Instead, The Cob House, just next door to the farm, offers a range of outdoor activities to keep you occupied. A recent winner at Worcestershire's ‘Visitor Attraction Of The Year Awards’, the fisheries and activities centre has plenty to engage families, with the reindeer and alpacas a particular hit with kids. There are also marked trails and play areas in the woods, and clay pigeon shooting for grown ups. A day's city break or a rural escape? Maybe the good old British weather will decide.
