Outer Bounds

Llanrhystyd, Ceredigion, Wales
1 acre hosted by Outer Bounds ?.
Isolated seclusion with speedy access to coastal walks
Outer Bounds describes itself as a ‘small, traditional down-home rural retreat’. It’s a tiny site of six-plus plots among wild land peppered with indigenous willows, oaks, hawthorns and redcurrant bushes. Sheep roam the nearby fields and only one or two passing cars might slip along the road each day. Life really doesn’t get much more rural than this.

A boutique campsite this is not. There are sizeable pitches and a recently built shower block, but so far that’s your rugged lot, although there is now hot water all day during summer, and even electrical hook-ups on some pitches. There are campsite basics like a barbecue and communal table as well as less conventional features like (our favourite) a mini stone circle. Bring a guitar and some incense sticks and, on a starry night, you’ll be in hippy heaven.

There are people for whom this campsite won’t be right. Dog-owners are out of luck – pets aren’t allowed – and older children could get bored. Softies who can’t camp without hook-ups will find the amenities a little basic. But anyone looking for countryside calm, broken by nothing more than fish-and-chip suppers, trips to the beach and birdsong, won’t be disappointed.
