A picturesque, back-to-basics campsite in the Llyn Peninsula Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Bert's at Bryn Ifan has been a place for friends to come together since its inception. The Paice family, who own the neighbouring Bert's Kitchen Garden (10 min drive from Bryn Ifan), have been friends with Bryn Ifan owners Callie and Gwynn for years, with the latter's daughters even working at the Garden. Now Bert's has teamed up with the couple to bring this idyllic campsite to life, providing low-key and intimate eco-camping with uninterrupted countryside, stunning coastal walks on your doorstep, and the stress of city life kept firmly in the rear-view mirror of anyone who visits.

Bert's at Bryn Ifan is nestled within around 15 acres of a sprawling 500-acre family-run farm in North Wales, within the Llyn Peninsula and close to Snowdonia. The seven private pitches are mowed into the meadow in a unique pattern reminiscent of a crop circle, with wildflowers outlining each circle in its branching design. Rolling countryside views stretch right out until they reach the coast — the view from the top pitch is particularly noteworthy — with the sea visible from the site and accessible within a short drive. A vintage caravan is being prepared for guests to this new site, too, with this '60s-styled blast from the past sleeping two and a baby While the limited number of pitches in this site ensures its ground remains unspoiled and environmentally friendly, there are still favorable amenities here including flushing toilets located in their own private little sheds, and hot showers for washing after a day spent rambling around the farmland.

After working up an appetite after trekking through the Llyn Peninsula — an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that encompasses a myriad of beaches, farmsteads, and impressive (but fortunately extinct) volcanic peaks — Bryn Ifan's visitors have members-only access to Bert's Kitchen Gardens just down the road, who can rustle you up a meal at any time of the day. Here you can also book yoga classes for both kids and adults alike, or take a kayak out for an entire day of adventuring. With Bryn Ifan, Bert's is getting bigger, and we're perfectly okay with this picturesque slice of private heaven taking over the Peninsula.

2 showers and 3 toilets and a washing-up area. All toiletries are provided for.  BBQs and campfires must be off the ground,  Logs can be purchased on site. Rubbish and recycling bins are provided on site. Please make every effort to limit the amount of plastic waste you bring.

Suitable For

Campers Only- couples, children, and families yes. Campervans, motorhomes , group bookings, smoking – no.

Tucked up in to the hills with far reaching views of the peninsula and beyond, the surrounding mountains provide plenty of walking, bouldering and climbing opportunities (if you’ve got your own gear). There’s a little museum and café at the Welsh Language Centre at Nant Gwytheyrn (01758 750334), just the other side of the mountain – 10–15 minute's drive away. It’s 8 miles to Parc Glynllifon, a country park with a café and children's playground and it’s 10 miles to Porthdinllaen. This coastal village has a great walk described by the National Trust, a sheltered beach with rockpooling and a pub pretty much on the shore that’s said to be worth a visit (see Food & Drink). Snowdonia National Park and the peak of Snowdon itself are about 20 miles away with the Snowdon Mountain Railway providing the quick route up if you don’t fancy the hike. Castle Caernarfon is 14 miles away and the historic town of Beaumaris on Anglesey is under an hour away.

Food & Drink

Bert's Kitchen Garden restaurant which is just a short 10 minute drive away offers fresh croissants for sale in the morning with homemade cakes and ice cream available in the afternoons and drinks and sharing boards in the evenings.  The restaurant also serves up scrumptious locally sourced food in the evenings -must be booked in advance. For coffee, cake and lunches off-site try The Black Cat at Parc Glynllifon (01286 832691) or Caffi Meinir (01758 750 442) at the Welsh Language Centre. A five-minute walk from the campsite, in Trefor, there’s a little shop and the Clwb-y-Tur, former quarryman’s social club where you can get a pint and a packet of crisps. But for something more substantial, try The Tŷ Coch Inn (01758 720498) in Porthdinllaen (regarded as one of the best beach pubs in the world), 10 miles away. The restaurant-quality food at The Goat Inn, 15 miles inland at Porthmadog, (01766 530237) and the Mexican-fare at Pontoon (01758 228346) on the south side of the peninsula are also recommended – booking is essential.
