Scenic and simple camping in southwest Wales on a working farm with surprising amenities
Throw down your bags and embrace the Welsh countryside, as Cwmorgan Camping offers a nearly-wild experience on the grounds of a family-run working farm, complemented by civilised amenities for those who also wish to use the bathroom in peace. Though set across three pitching fields on a farm in Carmarthenshire, the grounds aren't occupied by the animals; instead, you'll be able to spot them happily grazing nearby, with cows, sheep, and chickens making up the livestock here. It's a laid-back affair for laid-back campers, offering a basic site with the essentials in close reach, while simultaneously allowing you to unwind in an idyllic spot tucked away in sprawling fields.

Each pitch comes with a view, as its fields contain little light pollution, making starry skies an inevitability in the evening. Despite the pop-up nature of Cwmorgan, you also won't sacrifice much in terms of comfortability; flushing toilets and a hot water, eco-friendly shower put its amenities a cut above similar sites. The same can be said with the scenic trails you can embark on from your doorstep, with the site located next to the Afon Cych, which flows into the River Teifi, one of Wales' longest rivers and an ideal route for those looking to ensconce themselves in their rural surroundings.

For something more adventurous than a quiet stroll through the southwest Wales countryside, take a dive into one of the four Pembrokeshire waterfalls you can access from the site, including Ffynone and Cenarth, both stunning locations accessible in a short drive. The same can be said for the beaches situated along the nearby coast, including New Quay's popular Harbour Beach. A designated Blue Flag beach, expect clear waters and soft sand, with wildlife-spotting in the region being a typical tourist pastime. A variety of tours take place from the harbour, letting visitors catch a glimpse of the dolphins and seals in the Cardigan Bay coast. If you're in the market for simple tent camping, where blissful days of river walks and sunny trips to the beach effortlessly morph into evenings cooking over a firepit beneath the stars, then Cwmorgan Camping has you covered.

The Owner Says

Family-run working farm site in the Carmarthenshire countryside

A 15-minute drive from waterfalls and half an hour from the coast

Three pitching fields with firepits to hire. hot eco shower

Cwmorgan Camping is a family-run working farm in the Carmarthenshire countryside. We are 'Wild Camping' meets campsite because you'll be in fields but with civilised facilities including flushing toilets, hot eco shower and washing up station.

There are three fields to choose from here, all of which have a mix of flat and slightly sloping areas (the flat parts have capacity for more than the total number of pitches on offer, so you'll always find a level plot if you want it). At night, hire a firepit and listen for foxes and owls or spot stars in a clear sky (there are no streetlights anywhere near interfering with the darkness).

You are welcome to take your vehicle onto the fields via gravel tracks, or you can park in the yard if you prefer a hardstanding area.

The camping fields are free from animals, you’ll be able to spot chickens, cows and sheep in the surrounding fields, while being well-situated for river walks, hilly hikes, cycling, beaches or some splash-worthy canoeing and kayaking – even coasteering on the Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire coast, 30 minutes or an hour’s drive away respectively.

Food and essentials may also be on your mind. Handily, Newcastle Emlyn (10 minutes’ drive) has supermarkets, a chemist, post office, an electric car charging point and two Indian restaurants, while there are mainstream places in Cardigan and Carmarthen (both half an hour’s drive) including cinemas and chain restaurants.

Camping pitches spread across three fields.
