Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home at some sites—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Every comfort in the great outdoors with a local pub just a short stroll away and a perfectly peaceful location in rural Suffolk

It took over two years for local craftsmen to design and build the perfect pods for Buxhall Country Glamping. It’s a sign of just what a labour of love this rural glampsite is. Secluded away on the edge of Buxhall village it’s been built with modern comforts in mind, with the likes of air-conditioning and a mini-kitchen in each pod, yet the place also has a real sympathy with its surroundings. The brown shell of the pod has an earthy camouflage against the backdrop of the hedge-lined meadow and circular windows constantly peep out at the trees and birds. It’s a perfect marriage of comfort and proper, outdoor living.

Run by amiable owners Val and Graham, the meadow hosts just two pods and a brand new yurt, each with their own private bathroom just a short stroll away. Every unit has a king-sized bed, with the added option of single beds and fold out mattresses that help boost the numbers (up to six people can sleep comfortably in the yurt, four in the pods), while the broad space of the meadow that stretches out before them is ideal for children to fling a Frisbee around or hunt for bugs in the newly planted hedgerows.

The smaller scale of the glamping site allows Val and Graham to give that extra attention to detail. Fresh towels are provided; tea, coffee and essential items are stocked in your kitchen; and a complimentary bag of logs is provided for the yurt’s wood-burning stove. They’re also happy to give local recommendations as they greet you and show you to your abode, from walks to the village pub and beyond, to the best places to go on the Suffolk coast.

It’s a 45-minute drive to the nearest beach, though there’s plenty to stop you along the way, with the local town of Stowmarket a happy diversion, particularly on market days (Thursdays and Saturdays). Historic Bury St Edmunds, meanwhile, is well worth a wander, with independent shops and cafés galore. The very best way to make the most of the place as a family, though, is to bring bikes, both for the local cycle route (National Route 51) that runs just north of the glamping site, as well as for the family-friendly trails in Thetford Forest. There are handy bike-racks provided in the meadow on your return. You see… everything has been thought of.

Pod 1
I booked Pod 1 for my boyfriends birthday and I couldn’t recommend more! We had the whole camp to ourselves and our hosts were incredible welcoming. We had complimentary milk and biscuits and marshmallows waiting for us, and having your own toilet/shower really makes all the difference. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a quiet little weekend away :)

Glamping in a nice location
The location is great, we had a quiet time. The toilet and bathroom are very clean and impressive. The facilities are great for having a good time. Highly recommended. My dog had a good time as well. Good walks and pubs nearby. The Chestnut Horse pub is a great place and is recommended.

Our stay started with a very warm welcome from Val and Graham which set the tone for our stay. They gave me some tips about where to find the alpacas and the local park - both of which were a very short walk away, which was great as I was holidaying alone with 3 small children (8, 5, 3). We. Stayed in Pod 1 and had peepod 1. Both were clean and spacious enough for the four of us and the complimentary toiletries, tea and biscuits and marshmallows for roasting were a lovely touch! The location is exceptionally safe for small children which was perfect for me. We had fun toasting marshmallows round the fire pit in the evening. We loved our stay and will definitely return! If you’re holidaying with small children the local park is a short walk away on Mill Road and the alpacas are just next door. We also went to Melford Hall which has a bug trail for children and lots of parkland and gardens for them to burn off energy. Hollow Trees farm trail was also great with animals to see and so much play equipment .

Gertie the Yurt
Spent a couple of nights in Gertie Yurt- extremely comfortable and well equipped. We used three of the beds and all of us slept well. Communal fire pit was a lovely place to chat to other campers-a great place to watch the stars, listen to the little owls, foxes and pheasants during the night- it's a real rural treat. The peepod was very clean, supplied with plenty of loo paper, hooks to hang up clothing, shampoo and shower gel and a radiator if you needed to dry anything on the towel rail. We took too much stuff with us as we hadn't been before but didn't need it as the only thing you really need is charcoal if you want to use the BBQ. Would thoroughly recommend.

Pod 2 (Dogs Allowed)
What a gem of a place, very peaceful, beautiful surroundings and very clean. We met Graham on arrival who showed us to our pod and explained everything to us then we just had a lovely chat. As usual for me I took stuff that I didn't need too as the pod has everything you need even a lovely little jar filled with biscuits 😋, it was lovely and warm at night we even had to use the air con. The beds are very comfy, nice clean crisp bedding, our 30 Yr old daughter came with us and slept on the single fold out bed which was very comfy. The "peepod" was great it had a lovely roomy shower, toilet, sink even shampoo, bodywash and hand-wash, a radiator if you were cold somewhere to hang clothes and shelves, you really couldn't ask for any more. My husband got on well with Graham they were always chatting, Graham even gave him a tasty bottle of beer called " old growler", val was just as lovely and chatty too. At the back of the site were some alpacas which the children would love (I loved them too) our dog poppy didn't quite know what to think. We set our gazebo up on the Sunday night as the weather was hit and miss but not cold and we sat out all night playing guitar and games and had a bbq which is provided just bring coals and food, there's even mint growing for your pimms! There's a lovely big firepit for everyone to use and logs to sit on, it looked great loaded up and on fire. What else can I say you'll have to book up and see for yourself but you won't be disappointed👍👏🥰 thank you Graham and val for a great weekend 😊

From the host
Glamping is the fun way to have a back-to-nature experience combining camping with a touch of luxury, without the hard work of pitching a tent or lugging your own kitchen sink or sleeping bag with you. It's camping in style - home comforts included! Our site is in a peaceful meadow in the middle of the beautiful Suffolk countryside. Choose from 2 pods or go for one of our traditionally built Mongolian yurts. Each has their own heated, secure shower room in the separate Peepod, giving you hot showers & privacy. Disabled facilities available. Once you’ve settled in you can relax with a cuppa while the children play in safety, the site is well away from the road. When the sun comes down the firepit is there for everyone to enjoy, toasting marshmallows and making new friends. Suffolk is home to many wonderful towns such as Bury St Edmunds or Lavenham (both only 20 minutes) with historical buildings and well preserved medieval architecture as well as some of the prettiest villages with their chocolate-box thatched roof cottages. Not only is there the peace of the countryside, the cities of Norwich, Cambridge and London are within easy travelling distance. The coast is around 45-60 minutes away by car or a 2 hour drive will take you back in time to the north Norfolk coast.
Nearby attractions
The lovely village of Buxhall may be small but its is a real hidden treasure. The local pub (see Food & Drink) is an old, atmospheric haunt with exposed beams, and the village even has its own windmill (though, sadly, it lost its sails during a storm in 1929). Local walks are easy, straight from the campsite, and National Cycle Route 51 is nearby and popular with families. Granary Crafts (01449 736363), a local history/bygones museum, is also within walking distance and open on weekends. The nearest town is Stowmarket (3 miles), which has a small market on Thursdays and Saturdays and is also home to the open-air Museum of East Anglian Life (01449 612229) hosting various events during summer. Historic Bury St Edmunds is also easily reached by car (20 mins) with the abbey ruins in the lovely Abbey Gardens, stunning cathedral, individual shops and a popular market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. It's a 45-minute drive to Southwold and the Suffolk coast.
Food and drink
The Buxhall Crown (01449 736521) is just a few steps away and there's The Six Bells (01449 736268) in the neighbouring village of Felsham. For everything else, travel to Stowmarket, a reasonable sized town with restaurants, cafés and pubs. Alder Carr Farm (01449 720820; 15-minute drive) in Needham Market is a popular farm shop with a few individual shops and a café, while children love the farm trails at Hollow Trees Farm (01449 741247; 20-minute drive) in Semer, which also has a farm shop and café.
