Glamping literally reaches new heights in the Peak District National Park

Peak by name and by nature, Peak Glamping Hideaway can lay a strong claim to being UK's highest-altitude glampsite. Situated in Quarnford just outside Buxton, this secluded hamlet adjoins the UK's highest officially recognised village, Flash – 551 metres above sea level and encompassing the Three Shire Heads of Axe Edge Moor, where Cheshire, Derbyshire, and Staffordshire converge. The moor is also the source for the myriad rivers that criss-cross this landscape (namely the River Dove, River Manifold, River Dane, River Wye and River Goyt), scything open the ancient stone into spectacular green valleys.

Comprising a pair of family-sized Mongolian yurts along with a romantic shepherds hut for two, the glamping accommodation is sited in a spacious open meadow enclosed by drystone walls. Spin 360 and the views in any direction are incredible, with big skies and lush rolling hills all around. High up in the Peaks, there's a real roof-of-the-world feel, too, making this a retreat in the truest sense.

Although secluded, there's nothing primitive about the accommodation. Each boasts a proper king-sized bed, while the yurts include a trio of comfy futons for extra guests. Luxury touches such as Egyptian cotton, feather down duvets, sheepskin rugs, and that all-important wood-burning stove come as standard. Facilities-wise, a brand new barn conversion houses washing facilities that would put most boutique hotels to shame, with two immaculate showers and even a roll-top bath to soak away in after a day's hiking. While the self-contained shepherds hut includes a kitchenette with Belfast sink and granite worktop, guests can also use the communal kitchen facilities in the same space too, and extra touches such as complimentary towels and a breakfast hamper on arrival shows a thoughtful attention to detail too.

From its peerless position, Peak Glamping Holidays boasts the riches of the region within easy reach. Genteel Buxton offers culture and adventure in equal measure, with quintessential chocolate-box tearooms and outdoor fun in the country park. For historic days out, check out Chatsworth House as seen on the BBC's iconic adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. But given the wondrous walks to be enjoyed throughout the national park, your best suited putting on some boots, plotting a route and setting your jaws stunned.

Sheep Dreams Shepherds Hut
This is the second time we've had the absolute pleasure of staying at Peak Glamping Hideaway. This time we stayed in the Shepherd's Hut (we stayed in the Bell-Tent last year - equally as good). The facilities are excellent and we even had Sean/Shaun(?) the little cat to keep us company round the fire and to fuss (although he did steal a burger bun and run off with it so you have to watch him!) The welcome was warm, the scenery stunning and it was just a great getaway from the noise and bustle of home for a few days to recharge our batteries. The silence is something I have never experienced elsewhere and was so calming and relaxing to just sit and chill in. I cannot recommend Peak Glamping Hideaway enough if you're looking for a relaxing stay away from things. Buxton is not far away and the Peaks are just a great place to explore if you're more active than we are/were in regards to walks. If the skies are clear its great for nerdy star-gazers like myself also. We will be back next year as we've yet to experience a stay in the Yurt and want to give that a try.

Sunrise Yurt
We came and stayed in the Sunrise Yurt for 2 nights as a surprise getaway for my partners Birthday, from the minute we arrived we felt welcomed. The Yurt itself was spacious and very well presented and incredibly comfortable. We were very lucky that the weather was glorious for the time we stayed but in the evenings when the sun went down we lit the log burner to take the chill off, it was just lovely! Very well placed for access to all the really great areas for walking and activities within the Peak district. I couldn't recommend this place any more highly we had a fabulous time and will definitely come again!!!

Sunrise Yurt
I stayed in the sunrise yurt with my partner for three nights. Even though we arrived in by no means fortuitous weather conditions, any discomfort was allayed by the warm welcome we received from the hostess Tiffany. This was enhanced by us showing around the immediately enticing tour of the yurt. We found the stay incredibly comfortable accompanied by tremendous views. Additionally, the breakfast hamper and the quality of the kitchen fittings made the stay stress-free and we knew we could be easily self-sustaining. I would recommend this stay to anyone wishing to escape the city with their partner.

I have just stayed in the Sunrise yurt with my boyfriend and we had such a great time. It was the ideal place to get away after lockdown. The yurt had a comfy luxurious bed and was complete with cosy wood burner and extra touches such as fairy lights and candles. The washrooms and kitchen were spotless and clean with antibacterial sprays and hand sanitizer for us to use. Lovely rural location with great walks and views, we will be back.

Sheep Dreams Shepherds Hut
This place was really cute and quirky and we enjoyed our stay but unfortunately there were quite a few niggles which really took the edge off: Half the bed was really wet on the first night, not sure if the window had been left open and it rained? Not nice. There was no milk in the room for making hot drinks and insufficient coffee sachets. There was no hot water in the shepherds hut for washing up as it was broken and the tap dripped constantly. There was a toaster in the room which was broken. Despite there being an array of herbs and spices in the kitchen there was no salt or pepper. There was a random thong outside the communal kitchen area which was a bit gross! There were shared towels in the bathroom which isn’t ideal during Covid . On the plus side: The host Tiff came to show us around and was really helpful with advice about the fire There was a friendly horse in the next field who came over to say hello a few times The views were incredible and it was lovely and quiet, we only saw the host and 1 other person during our stay The bathroom was clean and modern and the kitchen was well equipped The welcome breakfast hamper was a lovely touch and really delicious The stove kept the room nice and toasty Overall a great place to stay but more attention to detail required from the owners to make this quaint little shepherds hut with incredible views live up to the online reviews

We stayed in the shepherds hut and it was fabulous. So cosy and very clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed within the hut and there was also the kitchenette we could also utilise. We used the fire pit and also the BBQ. It was bliss. A complete getaway from the hustle and bustle of the world we live in and we’d love to go back! Thank you Tiffany for your wonderful hospitality.
