Adventure-filled glamping with sea views to savour

If action-packed days on the North Devon coast and lazy evening barbecues with sunset sea views sounds appealing, Livit Adventures is the glamping experience for you. Set within the grounds of the ever-popular Westacott Farm Campsite, this new venture sees a trio of comfortably furnished bell tents set in a private pocket of the 220-acre farm.

Helmed by Kevin and Sarah, who run an adventure activity holiday company – Livit Adventures – from the same site, guests are in more than capable hands. The pair know all the best places to surf, kite, wakeboard or just go for a good hike in the local area and you can hire boards and equipment directly. Beyond organising activities, however, Livit Glamping is also a bona fide glampsite in its own right. Their trio of bell tents – Clovelly, Lundy and Baggy, all named after coastal landmarks within view of the site – are equipped for the utmost comfort. So, whether you're interested in riding the Atlantic waves or simply staying put and marvelling at them from your sundeck, this is a fine spot.

While glampers enjoy king-sized beds, toasty wood-burning stoves, rugs, furnishings and private kitchen shacks, Livit Glamping still has its roots in the traditional camping experience. Firepits are provided for crackling evening campfires and facilities (hot showers, clean toilets and a washing area) are shared with the adjacent campsite.

And there's good reason that an established campsite is here. Less than half a mile from the sea and with views out to Lundy Island, you won't find a finer location on the Hartland Heritage Coast. It takes just 10 minutes to stroll from your bell tent to the South West Coast Path, where you can head in either direction to find some of the region's most beautiful beaches and settlements, whether it's the sparkling sands of Westward Ho! or the harbour village of Clovelly, so lovely that lovely is practically its name!

Nearby

There’s no end to the coastal activities on offer in this stretch of the south west, and many can be arranged direct through Livit Adventures. You’re in safe hands with Kevin and Sarah –- both are qualified instructors and Kevin is a British Masters kitesurfing champion. The South West Coast Path can be picked up a mere 10 mins from the site, while the Blue Flag beaches of North Devon and North Cornwall lay within easy reach. Westward Ho!, with its long white-sand beach popular with kitesurfers, is only 10 minutes away. Idyllic Clovelly is about 20 minutes away, a historical fishing town notable for its steep, car-free cobbled main street and industrious resident donkeys, the only transport permitted. Admission to the village is priced at £7.50 for adults; £4.50 for children and guided tours can be arranged. Around 45 mins away you’ll find Bude, with its welcoming golden sands, pastel-coloured beach huts and (allegedly) the best Cornish pasties in the south west. A similar distance, Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay are excellent for surfing – the former is ideal for all abilities while the latter’s gnarly waves are strictly for the more experienced. Lundy Island beckons across the water from your bell tent – book a day trip across on the Lundy Island ferry (01271 863636). Golfers can enjoy the course at Royal North Devon Golf Club (01237 473817) – England’s oldest – while the North Devon Wake Park (07956 009047), Ultimate Adventure Centre (01237 880028) and The Milky Way (01237 431255) offer fun for all the family.

Food & Drink

Local produce – including the farm’s own free-range eggs, sausages, bacon, and burgers – is available from the campsite farmhouse, along with ice creams, cold drinks, sweets and other essentials, from Easter to October half-term. For the big shop, there are supermarkets in Bideford. Pub-wise, the nearest is The Thatched Inn (01237 471321) – a lovely traditional watering hole within walking distance in Abbotsham. A fixture of the community for the past 400 years, its picturesque walled garden make it a perfect spot to while away the day. The Pig on the Hill (01237 459222) in Westward Ho! Is a cracking gastropub serving quality dishes in a down-to-earth, country pub setting. You haven't tried a real traditional Devon cream tea until you have been to Tea on the Green (01237 429406) and ordered their famous giant scones. Located in the centre of Westward Ho!, this multi-award-winning eatery serves amazing cream teas (named after Hollywood legends), door stop sandwiches, delicious cakes and a deluxe hot chocolate to die for.

Opening Times

Mid May–end of October.

The Owner Says

Seeking out beachside days and scenic strolls along cliffs and sands? Swim, sail or surf along to Livit Adventures & Glamping, a family-friendly glampsite five minutes’ drive from the village of Abbotsham in Devon.

Within easy reach of the coast, this is a top destination for rural getaways with ocean breezes. On the grounds of Westacott Farm, settle in among the greenery on site, then let those breezes take you to the South West Coast Path – a roughly 10-minute walk across fields – for spectacular views and rambles towards Westward Ho! in one direction and Clovelly and Heartland point in the other.

Get out on the water with surfing and kitesurfing in Westward Ho!, or opt instead for wakeboarding and splashing around the aqua park at the wake park. For other pursuits, the site team also own an activity company, so there are surfboards, bodyboards, wetsuits and stand-up paddle boards for rent, and paddle boarding tours to sign up for.

After all that activity, home base is no doubt beckoning… Turn feet and boards back to the campsite to unwind on a private deck, set something to grill on the barbecue, and sidle up close to the fire pit while taking in the stunning view over the Atlantic to Lundy Island, then wash up and retreat indoors where a log burning stove keeps things cozy into the night.

Social Distancing Measures

Glamping & camping- by nature this is wonderful opportunity for social distancing! Our glamping decks have 10m spacing between each tent. You will have your own kitchenette. All showers  & toilets will be cleaned regularly in accordance with government guidelines.
