A unique combination of off-grid glamping and spa days in Devon

If you’re seeking a break within the unspoiled wilderness, camping amid untamed woodland accessible across a babbling brook, at the head of a valley on an organic poultry farm with delightful roaming chickens, then chances are you’re looking to properly relax. Wild Earth’s eco-conscious campsite provides the above, and knows that its visitors are looking to truly unwind; it’s a good thing, then, that your trip can also be complemented by a masseuse and aromatherapist, in this unique combination of off-grid glamping and luxurious spa day.

Wild Earth is located in the 40 acres of a spring-fed wooded valley that make up Bulstone Springs farm, run by certified organic farmers Laura and Jon looking to share their land and its diverse ecology with guests. The spring in question runs down to the quiet village of Branscombe and then into the sea, and so Wild Earth’s hosts are respectful of the land they own and what they put into it. But that doesn’t mean that your spacious, furnished bell tent — heated by a wood burner — isn’t without its amenities; a fire pit sits beneath a separate, raised “parachute” tent, surrounded by benches for an evening natter, a hot shower looks out onto the woodland for sheltered but scenic bathing, and the camp kitchen and compost loo round off everything you need.

With the essentials comprehensively covered, all that’s left to do is relax in your surroundings. And what a place to relax — on top of the site being ideally situated close to the Jurassic Coast with its myriad of beaches, clifftops, and stunning walks, on-site you’re offered the luxury of holistic massages from aromatherapy studio Wyldlore. Book them before you arrive and get those aches and pains smoothed out from the comfort of your heated bell tent, with bespoke offerings available along with the likes of balm and perfume-making workshops. For more energetic activities, axe-throwing is also available, as is tracking and natural navigation that takes visitors on an adventure in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. And, if you’re hungry, a delicious batch of fresh local food can be pre-ordered before your arrival from In My Back Yard, the local producers' co-op that Bulstone Springs is proudly a part of. Laura and Jon want you to leave Wild Earth as relaxed as the site itself; with its flowing spring, valley setting, and on-site massages, they’re adeptly equipped to achieve this goal.

Accessed across a babbling brook and surrounded by trees, Wild Earth is sunny, secluded and entirely private. The 5m bell tent is on a platform and furnished for four guests: a double and two single futons, made up with fresh, clean linen and woven Welsh carthenni blankets. The floor is natural coir matting, a wood burner and fairy lights provide warmth and ambient lighting. Towels are also provided, but please bring your own beach towels. Wild Earth has its own compost toilet. It shares access to a natural spring and a hot shower in the woods with one other pitch. To protect the environment and water course, organic castile soap / shampoo and washing up detergent are provided, so there's no need to bring your own.

There’s a fully kitted-out camp kitchen with washing-up area, a rocket stove, skillet, Dutch oven, fire pit and grill for outdoor cooking over a fire. There is also a large cool box with ice packs that can be regularly replaced. A first basket of seasoned logs is provided, and more logs are available to buy from the farm. Phones can be charged from a leisure battery provided. (Please note - whilst there is a gas-powered hot shower, we are trying to minimise use of fossil fuels so there is no hot water in Wild Earth itself - you'll need to heat your washing up water on the rocket stove or over your fire as you relax after your meal.

Although furnished for four, the bell tent has room for a fifth family / group member - please bring your own extra air bed / mat and bedding. There is also space for a second 5m bell tent we have available to hire unfurnished with matting and fairy lights, and / or you can bring your own additional tent(s) for an extra pitch charge - please see extra options on the bookings section.

Suitable For

We’re really sorry our farm isn’t easy for people with limited physical ability. This is something we'd like to address for the future but it will take some work. The glamping area, compost loo and shower access are up steps / along uneven, flinty ground. Please keep this in mind when considering staying with us, and make sure you have friends / family members to help you. Please message us to find out more, we will always try to be as accommodating as possible.

We welcome larger families / groups but no events / parties or loud amplified music, thanks. No age restrictions, but please be aware there is a water course and a couple of ponds on site, and plenty of other things for little people to fall in / over. Smoking is allowed outside, please dispose of all your cigarette buts in the bin. Thank you for keeping the site litter-free and using the recycling and rubbish bins provided.

Well-behaved pets are allowed. Please keep in mind we are a poultry farm. There are plenty of free ranging chickens that, if chased by an enthusiastic dog, may get very stressed and die. So please keep your dog on a lead when walking up through the farm. If they are in any way chicken enthusiasts, this might not be the place for you, as you will need to keep them on a lead at all times which could be stressful for you and your dog.

Large areas of our valley are also left to be wild. So we have lots of wild creatures - owls, bats, foxes, buzzards, song birds, insects, rodents, slow worms and more. We love it wild, and hope you will too. Whilst most are harmless, you will need to be aware of some of the flora and fauna such as ticks, adders and harmful plants like hogweed. We’ll provide boxes to store your food away from wild creatures in the night. Please bring your citronella / mosquito ointments and anything else you think you might need for a back-to-nature stay.

All facilities will be deep-cleaned between bookings, linen is boil washed and we regularly test to be covid-safe. Thank you for taking extra care the week before you arrive and ideally testing before you come. If anyone in your family / group tests COVID positive and you have been in close contact with them already, please don't come - we are happy to discuss alternative dates with you to rebook.

We are delighted to arrange on-site massage and aromatherapy treatments in the heated bell tent for anyone in your group, with Ella Staff from wyldlore.co.uk. These are £50 for an hour's session, £35 per additional booking, please see the extras on the booking section. Ella also offers a range of aromatherapy balms and perfume workshops and can plan these to suit your group's requirements.

Natural movement coach and ecologist Will Robinson is available for axe throwing, tracking and natural navigation workshops. Please message us for more information.

We are in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), a mile from Weston and Branscombe beaches.
