Holistic safari tent glamping with hot tubs and massage therapies, set at the foot of the Malvern Hills

You might be familiar with Castlemorton Common for its infamous reputation as the setting for a week-long rave to end all raves in the 90s. While the spirit of the party lives on in the tales of the locals (not all good), you won’t hear a rumble of jungle at this site. The rowdiest gathering here is probably the migrating swallows, who take to the sky at sunset to perform hypnotic murmurations. You can’t always guarantee their performance during your stay, of course, nor the perma-pink sunset over Swinyard Hill. But you can definitely count on Denise and Ben’s warm hospitality and a sense of calm inside one of their 1920s-inspired safari tents.

Nestled off a country lane at the foot of the Malvern Hills, Clarks Farm is an inconspicuous spot. The two sole tents are equally spaced to allow for solitary hot tub time and, while one vista promises the rolling hills, the other looks out onto a wild meadow in full bloom. Onsite you’ll find ample space and a nature hide-out for kids, with dens created from young willows and the opportunity to do a bit of pond dipping in a safe and enclosed area. Getting into nature is a huge part of the Swallowfields' appeal; you only need to take a 5 minute walk to reach the edge of Castlemorton Common, which leads, in turn, to the mighty Malverns for a more strenuous (up-hill) hike.

You might be tricked into thinking you’re in the Serengeti once you’re zipped up in one of these roomy canvas tents. They comfortably house six adults and two dogs. The list of luxuries inside is expansive but it’s the above-and-beyond extras, like the six-seater electric hot tub or the cocktail bar complete with a shaker and crystal glasses, that really show Ben and Denise's understanding of a glamper's needs. Inside, there's a wood-burning stove and, outside, a fire pit that doubles as a BBQ (the on-site shop has meat at the ready). For families, meanwhile, the little fence around each tent provides peace of mind that dogs can't run far and children are vaguely where they say they are.

A big part of the Swallowfields offering is the spa experience. You can book in for a bespoke beauty treatment or a massage in your tent, topped off by an evening in the hot tub. The option of a private yoga class also sounds like a good idea, and sensible after an afternoon hiking up to Eastnor Obelisk, which offers one of the best panoramas over The Malvern Hills. Though so too does a brief pint in the pub – the Plume of Feathers and the Robin Hood are both within a five-minute walk of your tent. If you fancy a day of sightseeing, meanwhile, it's a 15-minute drive to the quaint town of Great Malvern, home to an 11th-century monastery and thought to be an area that inspired literary greats, including J.R Tolkien or C.S Lewis. Whether you’re writing the next great novel or just a postcard to a friend, it all makes for a great setting to sit back, relax and embrace the British summertime with the swallows.

Nearby

Swallowfields is so relaxing you might find it hard to leave, but if you do venture further afield, there are lots to see and do in the surrounding area…

You'll find our part of the world in Castlemorton an idyllic, picture-postcard village, made up of a village centre, farms and houses, wildflower meadows, country pubs and meandering country lanes.  Castlemorton Common is just a short walk away, where you'll find acres of land to roam, have a picnic, fly kites and walk the dog. Head to the Malvern Hills, and you'll see some of the UK's finest countryside, whether you fancy a gentle stroll along a tree-lined path, an energetic trek, or a heart-pumping mountain bike ride.

The River Severn and the River Wye are marine playgrounds, and we're lucky to have them close by. Canoeing, kayaking, raft building and stand up paddle-boarding are all available on the beautiful River Wye or perhaps a leisurely riverboat cruise or a self-drive boat trip on the River Severn.

Head to local attractions, such as Eastnor Castle or Cotswold Farm Park, get creative at Eastnor Pottery or take a journey on Britain's premier Severn Valley Railway.

Worcestershire is a great place to step back in time to a bygone era and cherish the delights of yesteryear. There's a wide range of historic houses, including Elgar's Birthplace, Croome Park, Whitley Court and Worcester Cathedral. There are also various historic sites and museums to explore across the county, ranging from the Morgan Motor Company, Avoncroft Museum, and the gas lamps in Malvern, which have inspired the opening line in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. And if you fancy a little tipple, then make sure you check out Lovells Vineyard, Astley Vineyard, Westons Cider and The Chase Distillery.

There’s so much to see and do, the choice is yours…

Food & Drink

Worcestershire's renowned for being the 'home of food and drink.' That's why you'll find countless pubs, restaurants and cafes within its borders, all perfect for enjoying a delicious meal, afternoon tea or a nice glass of wine.

We have some fantastic classic country pubs in our area. Our favourites include the Farmers Arms, Birtsmorton. A quaint and cosy traditional pub that's over 500 years old, serving homemade pub food and real ales. It's a perfect distance for a summer evening's cycle from Swallowfields. The Robin Hood is within walking distance and, again, serves traditional pub food. It has a lovely beer garden with play equipment for the little ones—both welcome dogs.

There are award-winning fine dining and gastro pubs aplenty in and around Swallowfields. Some of our favourite gastropubs include The Inn at Welland, the Swann Inn at Hanley Swan and The Jockey Inn at Earls Croome. All serve delicious food, have friendly staff and lovely atmospheres. They also have dog-friendly areas too.

For a superb fine dining experience, our favourite restaurant is L'amuse Bouche in Malvern. Having celebrated our wedding anniversary here on several occasions, we can highly recommend it. Serving French-style cuisine in a quaint English setting, the restaurant has gained and maintained two AA coveted rosette awards since 2010.
