Glamping in Worcestershire: Safari tent stays on a working dairy with plenty of wildlife, plenty of luxury and, at the right time of year, plenty of new-born calfs to see

Hollings Hill Farm is the camping equivalent of the best hug you've ever had. But bigger, better, and more likely to restore an unwavering sense of tranquility. Quite simply, a stay here is unforgettable.

The super-luxury safari tents, supplied by well-loved glamping brand 'Feather Down Farms', are set in the old farm orchard, with views of rolling countryside and the breathtaking Malvern Hills. Back in 2012, owners Faye and Austin decided to reduce the number of tents on their land and ramp up the luxury – in Feather Down’s uniquely rustic way – by becoming its first 'Retreat with Treats' farm. This means that there's no extra charge for the sumptuous extras, including leather easy chairs, wood-fired ovens, verandas, a rustic outdoor cooker for relaxed al fresco meals and one session per person in a hot tub and sauna in the open-air field spa. And this is all in addition to the usual Feather Down essentials such as real beds, mattresses and duvets, kitchenware and a welcome basket of groceries. Flushing loos and running water inside the tented accommodation itself is another standard Feather Down Farms feature that few other glamping operations offer.

From the moment you arrive, expect to be pampered. Your luggage will be delivered to your tent, where a hamper of goodies will be awaiting your arrival. The oven will already be lit, the candles will be twinkling so all you'll need to do is open a bottle of wine and tuck into a slice of Faye's delicious homemade cake. This is a real place to get stuck into making delicious campfire cuisine too; the clay oven is great for baking fresh pizzas, bread, apple crumbles and cookies.

The farm continues to be the menagerie it’s always been, and there’ll be goats, ponies and chickens waiting to welcome you. But let's not forget this this a working dairy farm running a year-round breeding programme with its herd of beautiful Holstein-Friesian cattle. So, come at the right time and you might see a just-born calf trying to get its bearings with its new surroundings!

Eastnor Castle (01531 633160), home to the annual Big Chill festival, casts a dramatic Gothic silhouette over its 5000-acre estate. The castle's terraces offer extensive views across the lake, out across to the Malverns beyond. Nearby Ledbury is a beautiful market town; if you tiptoe down Church Street, its cobbled streets and overhanging buildings will make you feel like you've travelled back to the 1600s. For a more cultural experience, it's worth checking the listings for Malvern Theatres, which boasts one of the most diverse selection of plays, comedy and dance productions in the UK.

Food & Drink

A great selection of local produce can be picked up in the pretty town of Ledbury; go on a Friday where you can pick up homemade scones and sweet tartlets from the weekly market. No weekend stay would be complete without a Sunday carvery, and the Red Lion (01886 880318) is regarded as one of finest in the area. Alternatively, The Oak Inn (01531 640954) in Staplow is a beautiful conversion spanning across three cosy bar areas with log burning stoves, flagstone floors and an abundance of old wood beams.
