Dog-friendly, lakeside bell tents within walking distance of Witley Court House and Gardens

No matter how stressed you feel after the journey to your campsite, if you choose a lakeside pitch we predict you’ll be as calm as the water in no time. There’s something so relaxing about camping on the water’s edge. Even more so if the tent is pitched for you and offers glorious views over peaceful countryside. Such is life at Pennlake Vale where just two bell tents share a lakeside setting in age-old Worcestershire farmland.

The campsite may be tiny but the farm is far from it; 100 acres of lush grassland and occasional seasonal crops. The lakes were once used to irrigate the asparagus, lettuce and coriander that were grown here in the farm’s heyday. Now the land is semi-retired it’s an altogether quieter scene – and restricting the camping to just two bell tents means it’s destined to stay that way. Two families or two couples together would have this whole place to themselves.

Each bell tent is well-equipped for a comfortable stay and can sleep up to four. Anna-May has two double beds while Tumbling Tom has a double and two singles. Bedding is provided and if you want to bring your dog you can ask for a dog bed too. There’s electricity to power an in-tent fridge as well as a log-burning stove and a fire pit outside. Each tent has its own separate composting toilet and shower.

It’s the sort of place you could idle away whole days reading, throwing a ball about and wondering what to cook for your campfire dinner but, should you want to head out, there’s an easy option. Witley Court, once one of England’s most magnificent stately homes, is less than a mile away and an easy walk from the glamping site. Indeed, the farmland was once a part of the vast Witley Court estate before the house was struck by a great fire and the land divided up in the 1930s. It’s now in ruins but, arguably, all the more fascinating as a result. The folk from English Heritage have added a wilderness play area and a cafe to the things that kept visiting royalty entertained in years gone by: glorious gardens, woodland walks and, of course, the mark of any great holiday home, its very own lake.

Pennlake Vale sits in active farming countryside. Although it is very much quiescent in comparison to its former years, we do invite a local clay pigeon shooting club onto the land on occasional Sundays. They are a very friendly group entering a separate corner of the farmland out of sight of the tents. Those entertaining extended early walks on a Sunday morning, may run into one of their enthusiasts, and long time Pennlake Farm manager; Jason. A younger version of Jason can be spotted on the heritage photos of our website in the height of a summer harvest.

Suitable For

Pennlake Vale is suitable for those seeking a private getaway. The site boasts plentiful private grassland surrounding the tents to relax and unwind. Three lakes can be found in the surrounding farmland, noticeably two of these extend immediately infront of the tents giving them a tranquil and private backdrop.

Great Witley is home to 'Witley Court' which is only a few minutes drive, to tour the National Trust owned former stately home. This site also boasts their own stunning grounds, grandiose structures and iconic water features. For those with spirited intentions, West Midlands Safari park is commutable, and the local area includes a selection of Real Ale public houses, farm shops and a nearby restaurant and spa.

Food & Drink

'The Bell' at Pensax has a committed following, known for its traditional (and regularly rotating) real ales.

The Elegant Elms Hotel and Spa has a relaxed and upmarket feel and is in easy driving distance from Pennlake Vale.

The Owner Says

Situated in the Worcestershire Countryside, Pennlake Vale is a family run Camping Site.

Nigel and Robina have enjoyed farming in this picturesque setting since 1976. The 100 acre lush farmland shares it roots deep within the horticultural community.

Lettuces, tomatoes, spring onions, asparagus and coriander are a selection of the crops that have thrived on the soil here.

Now entering its retirement, the land has has given way to lush grassland, and although some occasional seasonal crops can be seen across the skyline, the site offers itself to relaxation and recovery.

Three fresh water lakes survive a busy history of crop irrigation and now feel more at home accommodating the local wildlife.

Pennlake Vale hosts two hot tents in the heart of its private farmland. Pets are welcome and each tent will hold four people.

Wi-Fi/Wood burner/Fridge/Electric/Fire pit/Bedding is available.
