Laid back glamping in the breathtaking wilds of Snowdonia

Snowdonia's vast ranges and peaks have long enraptured the lofty faculties of poets, artists and naturalists. Indeed, even the humble hiker trundling rosy-cheeked back down her reclining slopes have been known to come over all Wordsworthian. Thankfully, we know the perfect place to indulge such newly-awoken meditative whims.

Nestled on the Webber family's smallholding, overlooking the idyllic village of Eglwysbach, Backtrack Camping is a wonderfully laid-back glampsite available for exclusive hire. The two bell tents, lovingly christened 'Hendre' and 'Hafod' (that's 'Summer Dwelling' to all you Saeson) sleep four a piece. The twin pitches occupy a sheltered but slightly elevated position with views across farmland, woods and hills. With a cast-iron fire bowl, communal kitchen area and pristine washing facilities, this is luxury camping with a big 'C'.

Affable hostess, Helen, really pulls out all the stops to ensure a hassle-free luxury glamping experience for her visitors. Beds will be made prior to your arrival, homemade jam & scones or Welsh cakes will be ready for you on the table, the fire will be lit if you wish and complementary marshmallows will be waiting, ready to toast. An initial supply of firewood and camping gas is supplied. If more is required it can be purchased on site.

Nearby centres like Betws-y-Coed and Conwy are the perfect places to eat, shop and soak up the local culture. Further north, the seaside resort of Llandudno has buckets-full of red-brick Edwardian charm, plus Wales' longest pier and a passenger cable car that enjoys unparalleled views over Anglesey and Puffin Island.

Back on the farm, the surrounding countryside is brimming with sights and activities to entertain and astound. The intrepid among you can try a spot of gorge walking or one of the many guided walks around Snowdonia.

Afterwards, relax in your palatial abode or round the communal fire with a steaming bowl of cawl while you contemplate, like Wordsworth, the mountainscape's 'grandeur and desolation', to the accompaniment of the occasional bleating sheep – your sole neighbours in this private hillside hideaway.

Two 5 metre canvas bell tents occupy the small field (each sleeping a maximum of 4). Both tents now have 1 double and 2 single futons with all bed linen supplied as standard. Heated shower room with a hand basin and w.c. (unlimited hot water at no extra cost); covered kitchen and dining area. Campfires permitted in the designated area – Dutch oven, kettle and BBQ provided. Wood-fired pizza oven in a covered area where guests can prepare & bake their own pizzas, etc.
