Coed y Fron

If you're invited to a weekend getaway overlooking Hell's Mouth, you're probably going to be concerned about who's outstretching that invitation. But there's no need to worry; Hell's Mouth, known in Wales as Porth Neigwl, is actually a curiously named stretch of sandy and stony beach that Coed y Fron is situated by. This back-to-basics campsite provides an uninterrupted sea view of the four-mile rural bay, and its bell tents offer a peaceful, pre-pitched retreat ideal for exploring Mynytho and nearby Abersoch.

Coed y Fron is light on amenities but big on idyllic views. Four bell tents are pitched on an elevated meadow with Hell's Mouth in front of you, the archipelago of Saint Tudwal's Islands to your left, and the mountainous peak of Foul Gron behind. The Lynn Peninsula countryside is on full display here, with the tents surrounded by sprawling acres of land from which visitors can enjoy the sunrise over its vast hilly greenery, and the sunset behind the Atlantic ocean.

Though the bell tents may have been pitched before you arrive, they're awaiting your personal touch. There are no furnishings, so you'll need to bring your own sleeping mats and bedding. And be prepared for a lack of showers, too, though each tent is equipped with a personal toilet and sink. As the site is located on the land of a working farm, campers have the farm shop's produce at their fingertips, with fresh salad, fruit, and seasonable vegetables available from The Farm Gate. As the name suggests, the shop began life after the Alexander family started selling leftover eggs at their gate before it developed into the small store you'll find today, visited by locals and campers alike.

Guests are encouraged to use Coed y Fron as a hub to explore the wider area. And there are plenty of sights to experience. Hell's Mouth is favoured by surfers thanks to its imposing waves, with people travelling from across the UK to take them on. The seaside village of Abersoch is a short walk away, with its rural, sheltered beach being a popular and fashionable destination and backed by restaurants, cafes, and boutique shops. Then for families, Glasfryn Parc provides go karting, archery, clay pigeon shooting, and more for both the big kids and the small ones you're camping with.
