Hand-crafted luxury wagons on a working farm in the North Norfolk countryside

Picture 360 degree views, huge skies, hop fields and gorgeous sunsets. Prairie Skies is a brand new, collaborative composition, put together from the ground up by the talented team of Nick and Maddie. It all began when Madeleine first set up the beautiful Camp Mela retreat in a nearby meadow, but the location was just too special not to do something more with it. Nick was inspired to create four beautiful and unique luxury wagons and with his 37 years of carpentry knowledge, paired with Madeleine’s experienced eye for art and design, the wagons are a true masterpiece.

Nestled within the 3.25 acres of land that make up Norfolk’s Salle Moor Hall Farm, each of the four wagons is unique, carved out of larch, cedar and oak, and utilising reclaimed fixtures such as iron work and doors. The design further exemplifies the eco-friendly nature of this solar-powered, bespoke site - Prairie Skies really is a one-of-a-kind spot. The wagons have been created to provide a home-away-from-home that’s quite a step-up from the more commonly seen shepherd's huts. Masses of love, care and attention have gone into making them into a truly romantic and magical escape. There’s rustic but luxurious furnishings, hand-crafted, vintage pieces, plus roaring wood burners to keep you cosy on the colder evenings.

All the special touches to make your stay comfortable have been thought of. The double bed with duck down and feather duvet is snug and homely, while the table and chairs are in just the perfect spot to enjoy your morning cup of tea and the kitchen has been thoughtfully planned to use electricity from the site’s solar array. Hot showers and flushing toilets are located next door in the Bathhouse - yet another quirky design by Nick. Built on a Victorian agricultural trailer, there are two shower rooms both with sinks and toilets, as well as another separate toilet. These aren’t your standard tiled cubicles either, the walls are lined with beautifully intricate artworks.

This is an adults-only site which ensures peace, quiet and relaxation no matter the time but you’ll find there’s still plenty of activities to get involved in right within the farm grounds. Salle Moor Hall Farm is a celebration of local businesses, its land is rented out to local artisans, breweries and the like, who perfectly integrate with the lush Norfolk countryside scenery and offer visitors a little something they won’t get anywhere else, from the All Day Brewing Company that brews its beers and ciders on-site, to the uplifting Norfolk Coffee Co. and its house blends. By night you can choose to be social and star gaze around the big fire pit and communal dining area or spend a romantic evening for two huddled up together in your cosy abode.

Set on an open Norfolk Prairie alongside a track are four uniquely designed Handcrafted Wagons. But don’t mistake these for shepherd huts! Those were designed purely as small spaces in which to shelter from the elements. These dwellings are live-in Wagons. A thoroughly more substantial and luxurious space, more akin to a cabin or house on wheels.
Nearby attractions
Despite its population of just 50, the small parish of Salle boasts the impressive St Peter and St Paul church (01603871181) which is just over a mile from the site, towering over the small village it’s situated in and funded by several local lords, including the Boleyn family. Cyclists and walkers will appreciate the Marriott’s Way Heritage Trail (01603 224267), less than a mile away from the site, which stretches all the way to Norwich’s city centre in one direction and the traditional market town Aylsham in the other. The latter is accessible in a 20-minute drive from the site, notable for its abundance of 18th-century houses and the National Trust’s Blickling Estate (01263 738030). The former is a 30-minute drive away and demands visits to the beautiful Norwich Cathedral (01603 218300 and, a little further out, the Broads National Park, with its abundance of walking and cycling trails along with wildlife spotting, boat trips, and more.
Food and drink
The All Day Brewing Company (01603 327656) is a few minutes walk from the site, located on the same working farm and based in a 500-year-old barn. All beers and cider sold through their taproom are made on-site for an authentic pint, while local brewers also occasionally supply their own beer. Norfolk Coffee Co. (01263 710020)  is located next door, providing roasts from single-origin beans that provide tasty filter coffee and two espresso blends; try the 1549, the popular house blend. King’s Arms (01603 870345), a five-minute drive away in Reepham’s Market Place, is a family-run 17th-century coaching inn, delicious food with many vegan and vegetarian options, and six real ales featured in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide. The Dial House (01603 879900), also five minutes away in the Market Place, is popular for both its quirky decoration and delicious menu, which prioritises “fine produce, not fine dining” by giving guests a comfortable atmosphere with high-end food.
