Huntstile is foodie heaven. Owners Lizzie and John radiate a passion for good food, which the whole place lives and breathes. The farm covers over 650 acres of organic land, nursing vegetables, soft fruit, wheat, oats and barley, as well as medicinal crops and sheep and chickens galore. This isn’t a dedicated campsite but a farm-cum- campsite/glamping-sort-of-a-place – and it’s amazing...You can even get married here.
There are technically 25 pitches, located in a separate field just down from the farmhouse, but you’re more or less welcome to hunker down anywhere. If that seems like too much hard work, then cosy up in the beautiful bowtop gypsy caravan, complete with dinky little log burner and double bed – also with an outdoor firepit and cauldron for cooking – or the gorgeous, sky-blue painted shepherd’s hut trailer which, believe it or not, sleeps four, albeit at a squeeze.
You’re in Quantock country, so the farm lies in an enviable position circled by stunning rural Somerset and all its outdoor possibilities, not to mention a lovely stretch of coastline within striking distance. There are also onsite walks that seek out ancient woodland or stone circles – hard to believe you’re only ten minutes from the M5 as all you can hear around here is wildlife. Just a short stroll across the farmyard is a gorgeous little café, where you can tuck into a cream tea or a Full English, happy in the knowledge it’s all fair trade without a GM ingredient in sight. Lizzie also runs sausage- making courses, so you can have a ball creating, then sampling, your very own British banger.
The beautiful Quantock Hills are within a 2 miles walk or a 4-mile drive, offering a range of outdoor activities, including walking, horse riding, climbing, and fishing. The fossils and freshwater ponds of Kilve Beach, on the north Somerset coast, are only 20 minutes’ drive away. Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole & Glastonbury Tor, Minehead beach & Weston-super Mare, Exter and Bristol are all within 45 minutes drive
