It was Cass too who bought the classic American Airstream, a new feature for the 10-acre plot that’s nestled in its own private, woodland glade. The supremely cool caravan has been rejuvenated inside and out, complete with a modern kitchen, DVD television and wooden outdoor decking, and joins the site's two longer-standing features – a pair of beautiful Mongolian yurts, first introduced by Mary back in 2006.
The ‘Bed and Breakfast’ style approach extends to all these various hideouts. Their motto is simple – “just get here”. And with good cause, there’s no need to bring bedding, towels, torches, or even bed sheets as all guests are fully taken care of in a way only Ty Cefn Tregib know how. Sometimes even little things can make a big difference. Mary replaces the handmade outer-covers of the yurts every two seasons, keeping the accommodation looking fresh and unspoiled all year round.
Both yurts are in prime areas of the land. One with a fabulous view of the Towy River valley, and the other tucked close to a burbling stream where privacy is always respected. Inside, if you look closely enough, there are small artistic touches that help create a beautiful ambience. Take for instance the colorfully painted bedstead and draws, which are in-keeping with the original decoration used many years ago (and still today) by the Mongolians.
Ty Cefn Tregib’s location is also a winner. At the foot of the Brecon Beacons, it acts as a seasonal base for all things outdoors, in particular for world-class mountain biking, with some of the best trails right on your doorstep. When you decide to turn down the pace, the local village of Ffairfach with its shops, two pubs (both serve food), bus and rail links is only a short walk away, while the lovely market town of Llandeilo is within a mile and has enough bookshops, cafes, galleries, and deli’s to keep you busy for a few days.
Sitting proudly above the river Tywi, there can’t be many towns in Wales more attractive than Llandeilo. This charming place has a wealth of historic monuments, including the magical Dinefwr Castle (01558 824512), and the unique Roman Gold Mines at Dolaucothi (01558 650177.) Llandelio has good selection of eateries, from the nostalgic AJ's Retro Diner (01558 822500) to the Olive Branch Delicatessen (01558 823030), which offers a wide range of refined local produce. The Angel (01558 822765) is the town’s finest bistro restaurant, with the delicious pork casserole proving popular with the locals. If you feel having a go at making some local produce yourself, visit the Welsh School of Artisan Food who offer courses in cheese, bread, and beer making (01558 669116.)
