Ty Cefn Tregib

Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire, Wales

This secluded Carmarthenshire glamping site has all the creature comforts without any of the hassle
Ty Cefn Tregib is a true family affair. Indeed, the whole concept first started when John and Mary Evans’ children first moved out, leaving spare bedrooms for starting their own homely B&B. And now, more than two decades on, the place has come full circle, with daughter Cass fronting much of the hosting, while her parents tend the garden and aid around the site.

It was Cass too who bought the classic American Airstream, a new feature for the 10-acre plot that’s nestled in its own private, woodland glade. The supremely cool caravan has been rejuvenated inside and out, complete with a modern kitchen, DVD television and wooden outdoor decking, and joins the site's two longer-standing features – a pair of beautiful Mongolian yurts, first introduced by Mary back in 2006.

The ‘Bed and Breakfast’ style approach extends to all these various hideouts. Their motto is simple – “just get here”. And with good cause, there’s no need to bring bedding, towels, torches, or even bed sheets as all guests are fully taken care of in a way only Ty Cefn Tregib know how. Sometimes even little things can make a big difference. Mary replaces the handmade outer-covers of the yurts every two seasons, keeping the accommodation looking fresh and unspoiled all year round.

Both yurts are in prime areas of the land. One with a fabulous view of the Towy River valley, and the other tucked close to a burbling stream where privacy is always respected. Inside, if you look closely enough, there are small artistic touches that help create a beautiful ambience. Take for instance the colorfully painted bedstead and draws, which are in-keeping with the original decoration used many years ago (and still today) by the Mongolians.

Ty Cefn Tregib’s location is also a winner. At the foot of the Brecon Beacons, it acts as a seasonal base for all things outdoors, in particular for world-class mountain biking, with some of the best trails right on your doorstep. When you decide to turn down the pace, the local village of Ffairfach with its shops, two pubs (both serve food), bus and rail links is only a short walk away, while the lovely market town of Llandeilo is within a mile and has enough bookshops, cafes, galleries, and deli’s to keep you busy for a few days.

From the host
Ty Cefn Tregib is a converted barn, coach house and stables, formerly the outbuildings for Tregib Mansion which was demolished in the 1970's. It stands in a sheltered, secluded garden surrounded by woodland and fields, with open views across former parkland and the Towy Valley. Located in the westernmost corner of the Brecon Beacons National Park, we are easily accessible just 15 minutes from the end of the M4 making us a convenient, central base to explore the beautiful mountains, valleys, coastline, castles, the National Botanic Garden of Wales, and the many other attractions that West Wales has to offer. The local village of Ffairfach is within easy walking distance and has a shop, two pubs (both of which serve food) bus and rail links. The vibrant market town of Llandeilo is one mile away and has restaurants, cafes, pubs, a wide variety of interesting shops and galleries and the National Trust Dinefwr park and Castle.
