A spacious, off-the-beaten-track campsite that's still within striking distance of the New Forest

Sleepbrook Farm is just 3 miles from the boundaries of the New Forest National Park. Rumbling along the single-lane farm track that leads you almost half a mile from the road to the campsite, you’ll find all the tell-tale signs of the area: Long grasses, blackberry bushes and, finally, the great open space of the 10-acre camping meadow itself. The only thing missing is a New Forest pony trying to pinch your food. Whether that’s a blessing or a curse we’re not sure.

For those who do still crave the national park, it’s a mere three miles away, while Bournemouth and the south coast is little more than 15. The result is a campsite that’s well and truly tucked away from any crowds but also perfectly placed to pop out for the day and visit the main attractions. You can stay put and walk the local footpaths, taking in woodland, wheat fields and the little brook that gives the campsite its name, or you can hop in the car and take the kids to popular Peppa Pig World, a 25-minute drive into the New Forest. The choice is yours. If you’re camping for the week, we particularly recommend bringing bikes to make the most of the area, with ample car-free trails to explore in the national park.

Following on from their success in the past year they are now open for a third year. There are fully serviced temporary toilets on site, and two electric showers, plus a small cabin with charging points for mobile phones but, otherwise, this is a campsite that focuses on space and peace, rather than endless pre-organised activities. There are water taps, picnic tables and some washing-up sinks inside the cabin but if you don’t fancy cooking on site it’s around a mile to the Churchill Arms pub, which serves hearty pub food and has local Badger Brewery ales on tap. Make it back in time for a campfire and you can really enjoy the campsite when it’s at its best: when the sun sets and the quiet crackle of evening time descends.

For availability for the August Bank Holiday Weekend or if you have any special requirements or need help with your booking please use the contact host button One of 30 pitches in a large field so you can be as close (as long as it is more than 10 metres) or as far away from the next pitch as you choose.

Large Grass Pitch
This is such a great campsite. The facilities are always exceptionally clean. There is plenty of room for the kids to run around without impacting other campers. This is the second time we've stayed at Sleepbrook. We love the location as it is so close to the New Forest, but also within easy reach of the beaches at Bournemouth. We can't wait to go again next year!

Great find!
Lovely campsite, off the beaten track and one we will use again! Owners lovely and friendly, ensure you have all you need each evening and nothing is too much trouble. The cleanest portaloos I’ve ever seen! Facilities clean, but no toilet/shower block all portaloos. Plenty of space with spots up for grabs over 3 fields and with only 30 pitches available, you have as much room as you want. Good location with lots to do with 20/30 min drive. Look forward to our next visit.

Great location, spotless facilities
We stayed here again this year with family and friends. Nothing disappointed. Nick and Kathy were wonderful hosts and couldn’t do more to make us feel welcome - they even set up a reserved area so that our group were able to camp together! We will definitely be coming here again. Location is great for things to do and the site facilities are spotlessly clean.

We had a wonderful week. Nick and Kathy were very welcoming, facilities were excellent, and the space in the field was amazing. Loads of room for cricket, dog walking, and just spreading out around the site. We will be back!!

Large Grass Pitch
What a lovely little campsite! The owners were attentive and communication and directions were excellent. Just what we wanted, so peaceful, with beautiful views of fields and farmland. Great little facilities, everything you could need. And we even got to meet the herd when Kathy heard my son was interested in farming! Will definitely be back. Thank you! I can't say in a few words how amazing it's been. It's the best campsite. It is really big and you have all the privacy that you need and all the facilities near you. It's been so relaxing and calm. And Kathy is amazing, she is there for you whatever you need. Thank you for everything. Can't wait to go back.

From the host
We are a seasonal campsite and will be open from 4th -30th August 2023 For availability for the August Bank Holiday Weekend please contact us using the Contact Host button. We are delighted to offer camping in one of our fields, Old Meadow, a tranquil area in the centre of our farm, overlooking acres of natural countryside and woodland. Situated just 3 miles from the edge of the New Forest in the village of Alderholt (between Ringwood and Fordingbridge), this is the ideal location for a relaxing holiday with unspoiled nature and birdsong in abundance. There are many tracks and paths for rambling and exploring within striking distance – the Sleep brook meanders through woodland and onto surrounding forested areas. Old Meadow is a 10 acre field (5 football pitches) offering canvas and campervan pitches with well spaced grass areas in between making social distancing easy. There are plenty of perimeter pitches to choose from and we can offer a secluded pitch for the ultimate peaceful break. Well behaved dogs are welcome (as are their owners). There is an abundance of wildlife including buzzards, geece, deer, cows and many other animals that live on the farm to enjoy. On a clear night look up into the star filled sky and you may even see the International Space Station flying over. Sorry, but we cannot welcome caravans, motorhomes and do not have electric hook-ups. No large groups Stags or loud music. No noise after 11pm. Our location offers the best of both worlds, a peaceful countryside retreat yet a short drive away from popular tourist destinations including The New Forest National Park, Bournemouth and Southbourne beaches, the Jurassic Coast and the larger cities of Salisbury and Southampton.
Nearby attractions

There's good walking from the campsite but it's worth bringing bikes to make the most of the surrounding area under your own steam. You can head east into the New Forest (particularly well-known for its car-free trails and good wildlife spotting opportunities) or head west into the slightly lesser known Cranbourne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Cycle the three miles into Fordingbridge for lunch in a café or a picnic in the riverside park. Or you could even cycle to the Sixpenny micro-brewery in Cranborne (01725 762006), and enjoy one of their award-winning real ales in the Tap Room. Cranborne Village (three and a half miles) is the hub of the Cranborne Estate and well worth a visit. Teeming with history, the village boasts the beautiful Manor House, built in the 12th Century as a hunting lodge for King John. As it’s a private residence for Viscount Cranborne (the eldest Son of the seventh Marquess of Salisbury), the Manor House isn’t open to the public, however the beautiful Manor Gardens are open one day a week during the Summer (opening times, and other information available online). It's a 25-minute drive to Bournemouth and the south coast, too.

Food and drink

It's a mile to the dog-friendly village pub, The Churchill Arms (01425 652147), built in the early 1900s and still doing a decent trade today, with family pub grub and a good host of real ales. There's also a local Post Office and corner shop (Co-Op) in the village, plus a mobile fish and chip van that comes by on Wednesday and Friday evenings. For more options, it's three miles to Fordingbridge.
